| ------------ Location: North of Tompkins - SaskatchewanComments: I was deer hunting, fall of '97 approximately 20 km's north of Tompkins. I had just climbed to the top of a small hill and cautiously took a look at the field on the other side. I discovered a herd of 100 or so antelope grazing. Without an antelope tag, I decided to wait and watch. I put away my rifle and pulled out my binoculars, hoping they would wander my way so I could get an even better look. Suddenly, something spooked them and they took off straight towards me. 400 thundering hoofs pounding the field! They must have spotted me or the sun reflected off my lenses because they all turned as if as one at right angles and headed over the next hill at full speed. What an amazing sight! I've been deer hunting in the same area the past few years and seen many more herds of antelope, but never quite the same as that day. |
