The Campfire

Welcome to the PrairieOutdoors Campfire. A place to tell your outdoor stories, show your fish pictures, hunting pictures, weave your tale of the big buck found in the woods, of shots taken and shots passed up. Tell of the day you dropped the grouse after all others missed and how you coaxed the flock of mallards back to the decoy spread for all to fire upon. Here, you are the story teller, and we all believe you. In the Campfire, the fish are as big you can make em and the fight as long as you want to stretch it.

Story: These two gents were calling elk in the Saddle Hills south of Woking when this big guy slipped in on the caller the Shooter spotted the bear 8 yards from the caller and dropped him with 5 shots out of his 338 Rem Mag.. Farmers in the area knew about the Bear but weren’t able to track after it had killed 3 horses, 5 cows, 13 sheep and a pen full of chickens on several different homesteads in the area. Fish and wildlife had bear traps set up in the area but noticed on surveillance video that when ever a he would enter his hump would hit the top of the culvert trap slowing him enough that the trap door would wack him on the head before he was all the way in check out the scar tissue on his face….. Bear weighed in just under 1300 pounds and would have stood 11 ¾ feet tall on its hind legs…..

Story: Well after 7 weeks of baiting and many hours spent sitting in a tree stand, my son closed the deal on Saturday night by getting himself his 1st Big Game animal. He made a perfect shot on a nice Black Bear. The little man is pretty happy about it and is already talking about dear season in the fall!

Story: All the bears on this page were taken the same hunting trip to Chitek Lake, SK with the assistance of Caribou Trail Outfitters. The group was from South Dakota and consisted of Dick Tieszen, Roger Tellinghuisen, Tim Lipp and Dr. Scott Graslie DDS. It was a 5 day hunt and all four of the group scored.
Location: Chitek Lake, SK
Date: May 2000
Story: Roger shot the black bear which he is holding up in one of the pictures. He is in the camo and his bear is the one without the bald face.  He was using a Mathews MQ-1, with an ACC 3-49 arrow with a 125 gr. Muzzy broadhead.

Story: Scott Graslie shot the other black bear which appears skinned only. It is easy to identify because it is a bald face bear.  These are also the photos of the bear looking over Scott’s shoulder mimicking the joke about the bear who tapped the hunter on the shoulder saying you are not here just for the hunting are you. Remember the joke in the lodge?  Shot with a 300 win mag.
