– Little privacy in most sites, maybe 10-15 feet at most between most sites, some less and people were very noisy with stereo’s pounding until the wee hours of the morning and people yelling.
– Poor firewood supply
-Roads were pretty bad (not as bad as Rowans though)
-Very poorly designed campground and facilities layout
-Very poor signage in the park
-really not much to see or do except hiking and the trails for that are mediocre as far as scenery goes for the most part.
Crappy beach, crappy bathrooms, crappy roads, crappy firewood, crappy sites and the lake itself is just a couple big sloughs at the bottom of the valley which were dyked up and fed by canals from the South Sask river. I was hoping for a nice change from Buffalo Pound and Fort Qu’Appelle but was disappointed to find that Blackstrap is pretty much the same; too many sites crammed as close to each other as possible and poorly serviced and maintained facilities to squeeze a few more bucks out of the place. it’s just a teenage party place.
It could be a lot better with a proper planning, a little work and better serviced facilities.
Oh…and real fire pits, not those 70’s style bent bbq’s.

“Sunnyside” and “Gunns” used to be beautiful. What’s up with allowing all the wild shrubs, grasses, and weeds to grow. Why can’t the Gov’t of Sask. realize that the sandy beach is a beautiful place for little children and families,…but no they have chosen to let it go…to the wildlife????? Hello!!! Learn to keep the beach areas beautiful for the people and the north west side can be kept for the wildlife preservation. Not at all impressed with the Sask. Gov’t.

Overall I and my family have a great time every time we go. If I had a complaint it would be the road driving into the park, it can be quite tough on your vehicle and unit. Also I would like to see the bathrooms in Kimball Lake tiled to cut down on the mold. The new washers and dryers are most appreciated. (posted: 2005)
